Senior Member Location: Michigan | I've tried with no success the smallish paper clip, but since that's the best way I can come up with so far I'll try it again. I'd love to replace it with a GI spec barrel but this is the unusual 9mm version of the carbine. I had it for sale on gunbroker but cancelled it when this fail to cycle problem came up. Can't sell it until it's fixed. As for drilling another hole, I'd do that in a heartbeat but because of the 2 holes it has, I don't think that'll line up right anyway. As for carbon build-up, the carbines do get some build up. I have a Standard Products that was acting this way and even after cleaning the port it still would not function. I finally found that I needed to use a drill bit the exact size of the port to get it completely clean, as the paperclip was leaving too much hard carbon in there. Works like a charm ever since, and from now on I always do a thorough cleaning in this area. I just can't get this one!!!! Anyone know of a solution guaranteed to dissolve hard carbon build up? |
Apr 6, 2005 - I have an IJ carbine which is very similar to the Universal in the gas system. On a GI carbine they made the gas port to be accessible.
